The Marfan Foundation Named #16 in 2021 Best Nonprofits To Work For
The Marfan Foundation was recently selected again as one of the 2021 Best Nonprofits To Work For. This year, the Foundation ranked #16 among all non-profit organizations, moving up the list from #30 last year. This is the fourth consecutive year the Foundation was recognized in the top 50.
“I am so proud that the Foundation has been recognized again as one of the Best Nonprofits To Work For,” said Cory Eaves, Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. “It clearly speaks to the power of optimism in the most difficult of times, an extraordinary staff focused on reimagination of mission and fundraising activities when it was absolutely critical, and visionary organizational leadership.”
“The pandemic created unprecedented challenges for our staff in the past year and, despite our pivots in key programs, they were not deterred,” said Michael Weamer, President & CEO. “Their professionalism and dedication to our mission – and to each other – was never stronger as they enthusiastically continued to serve our Marfan, Loeys-Dietz, and VEDS community.”
The Marfan Foundation, which had been a mostly virtual organization prior to the pandemic, had the infrastructure in place to become 100% virtual overnight at the outset of COVID. Staff quickly transformed its high profile in-person events into successful online opportunities while expanding its many programs and services that were already virtual. Additionally, during this time the Foundation held its largest event in its history, the International E3 Summit, an educational web-based event that provided 70 presentations in seven languages and attracted 3,000 registrants from 75 countries.
“The entire staff contributed to the success of the E3 Summit,” said Weamer. “The planning and execution of this massive undertaking, and the tremendous feedback we received from around the world, exemplified the teamwork of our staff, their dedication to our mission and values, and above all, their care for our community.”
About Best Nonprofits to Work For
The Best Nonprofits to Work For is a program created by The NonProfit Times, the leading national business publication for nonprofit managers, in conjunction with the Best Companies Group to identify nonprofit organizations where leaders have excelled in creating quality workplaces.
This survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in the nonprofit industry, benefiting the industry's economy, workforce and businesses. The list is made up of 50 organizations.
To be considered for participation, organizations had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
- Must be in business a minimum of 1 year;
- Must be a nonprofit organization with 501 (c)(3) status;
- Have a facility in the United States;
- Have a minimum of 15 employees in the United States; and,
- An organization may enter as a group of nonprofits or as an individual organization as long as each participating organization is a separate legal entity (separate subsidiary). Branch offices may not enter separately from their parent nonprofit unless they are separate legal entities.
Nonprofits from across the United States entered the two-part survey process to determine Best Nonprofits To Work For. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated organization's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation.
The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top nonprofits and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process, analyzed the data and determined the ranking.
