Emergency Medicine Campaign Kit

The Emergency Medicine Campaign was developed in cooperation with the New York State Department of Health to provide medical professionals with information about the emergency diagnosis and treatment of aortic dissection. The goal is to reduce the number of preventable tragedies that result from this life-threatening condition.

The NMF reaches out to emergency medical professionals by:

  • Promoting the Campaign at medical conferences for emergency physicians, nurses, paramedics, hospital administrators and risk managers
  • Collaboration with medical organizations
  • Articles in medical journals and trade magazines
  • Direct mail to emergency medical professionals
  • Outreach efforts by local NMF members to their local hospitals

Under current funding arrangements, most of the materials in the Emergency Medicine Campaign, including the CME accredited video, are available for free to hospital personnel in the United States.

The Emergency Medicine Campaign has been generously supported by the Jonathan Larson Fund of the NMF. Jonathan Larson, Tony Award-winning creator of the hit Broadway Musical RENT, died tragically of a misdiagnosed aortic dissection after visiting two different hospital emergency departments in the days before his death. He did not know he had Marfan syndrome, although he had many physical characteristics that should have alerted hospital personnel of the possibility. The NMF's Emergency Medicine Campaign was created to prevent this type of tragedy from occurring in the future.

Under current funding arrangements, most of the materials in the Emergency Medicine Campaign, including the CME accredited video, are available for free to hospital personnel in the United States.  Click here to complete a request for a free Kit.
