Fall Dates Announced for Regional Symposiums
In Fall 2017, The Marfan Foundation is expanding its Regional Symposium programming to three cities. The Detroit Regional Symposium on Marfan Syndrome and Related Disorders is scheduled for Saturday, September 9; the Birmingham (AL) Regional Symposium is on Saturday, October 28; and the Cleveland Regional Symposium is on Saturday, December 9.
Each symposium features a comprehensive line-up of speakers on medical issues and quality of life (non-medical) issues, ensuring attendees will leave the symposium more educated and empowered to handle their diagnosis. A Creating Connections luncheon is also central to each event so that participants can network with other people in their area who are also living with Marfan and related disorders.
In addition to the adult programming, each symposium offers special programs that emphasize fun and friendship for children and teens. The opportunity to bond with other kids who face a similar medical condition can be extremely comforting and give children the confidence to deal with whatever comes their way.

“Having a symposium in Alabama is an incredible opportunity for those in our area. Several years ago, after my granddaughter was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome, my daughter and I attended a symposium in another state. We received a tremendous amount of information from the many presenters and we were able to network with others from several states who were there,” said Cindy Gossett, co-chair of the Foundation’s Alabama Chapter. “I hope the people with Marfan and related disorders in Alabama realize how beneficial the symposium will be for those affected as well as their family members. I consider this opportunity VICTORY for the state of Alabama!”
The cost to register for each Regional Symposium is $30 per adult. Children and teens are always free.
The Foundation is grateful to its hospital partners in these cities for making the Regional Symposiums possible. This includes Wayne State Medical School, UAB, and Cleveland Clinic.
More details, including speakers, will be listed on our community calendar as they are available. When registration opens, a link will be there as well.
